Orid Dhall - Recipe

One and half cup of SVS urad dhal

1 Teaspoon of crushed black peppers

3/4 Teaspoon of asafoetida

10-12 Curry leaves

300ml of groundnut oil

Salt to Taste


Wash and soak the SVS Urad Dhal properly for a 1/2 hour.

Then grind it into a fine paste. Add the asafoetida, salt, curry leaves and crushed peppers to the batter and mix very well.

After that, heat up the groundnut oil in a kadaai. Wet your palms and take the batter into your palms. You can now shape it into balls. With your thumb, make a hole in the centre of the balls.

Now you can deep-fry in medium hot oil until these look golden brown and become crisp.

For a good taste, serve hot with sambhar and coconut chutney.
